We did not climb the Mammaries this time,
instead we headed for the highest part of the North Ridge, Avalanche Mountain.

Among the meadows we found many Inky Gentians in full bloom.

I expected the ridge alpines to be dried up, as they are on The Mammaries,
but where the snow had lain late, there were still an extraordinary number of flowers blooming.
Alpine Goldenrod

More Purple Daisies.
(This is looking back towards The Mammaries.)
An amazing number of Alpine Harebells
And lots of Prickly Saxifrage over all the rocky bluffs.

Alex climbed to the top,
(Alex's photo)

but I was so distracted by the flowers I never got past the first hump.
On the way down, we passed through the meadows again
and I played with the macro setting on the camera and the sun.

Alex is more of a climber than a botanist.
But she says she will never look at flowers in quite the same way again!

Eric was guiding for me and also cooking dinner so I had no one I had to rush home for.
