CHRIS' PHOTO JOURNAL

16th to 18th September 08 - Gentian Valley, Part 1

To get a good start in the morning, I canoed up the lakes by moonlight.

There was a very hard frost.

And I was very glad to see the sun.

A couple of hours later, I reached the treeline.
For some reason, this area has the plants that put on the best display of fall colours.

The red in this area is the dwarf birch.

I hiked up the creek between the two peaks to what I call Gentian Lake
as this is where I found the Gentian that gives the valley its name.

Here is my little kitchen.
By building a fire in a hole in the rocks, then replacing the stones afterwards,
there is no subsequent sign of my firepit.
