CHRIS' PHOTO JOURNAL

16th to 18th September 08 - Gentian Valley, Part 3

This is the view back to camp from the top of the valley.

In the late afternoon it grew very calm and warm.

But clouds came in and the sunset (taken from my tent) looked threatening.

The morning was hazily cloudy but it still stayed dry.

I went round the left side of the lake and continued around the mountain.

There was not so much colour here, just the yellow arctic willow.

Here is Mount Monarch on the left, and Mount Concubine on the right.
You can just see a bit of the upper Talchako Glacier.

Here is a close-up

The thin glacier on the middle left of the picture
features in my pictures of the ill-fated Success Lakes Trip at the end of July.

I do not know what most of the other mountains are called.
