The hot weather continued although the wind had changed and thunder was now no longer a problem.I encountered the first snow at Wiggly Creek Meadow.
I sank to my thighs in this drift.

The whole mountainside was running with snowmelt.
Long Meadow was starry with Mountain Marsh Marigolds.

Soon the patches of snow became thicker.

The top two lakes were still mostly frozen
North Pass Lake in the next valley was also still frozen.
There was a lot less snow than on the day I flew in a week ago.
It has been a very low snow year and a lot of the bare slopes on The Mammaries already held open flowers.
The Mountain Avens were exceptionally early.
Jacob's Ladder was earlier than normal
and Payson's Draba
(This is a tiny relative of the cabbage!)
And even a few early Roseroots were out.
And here, at the top of the North Nipple, is Harry, my new dog.
Nahanni, the white dog I had last year, was eaten by a cougar during the winter.
Harry is a stray from a rescue organization.
This was his first real hike.
