CHRIS' PHOTO JOURNAL

Boundary Lake
21 July, 2009

Six of us and two dogs made the canoe trip and hike to Boundary Lake.

During Nuk Tessli's short season, all the birds hatch at once
and adults scolded us from every branch.
This Solitary Sandpiper came very close to try and lure us away.

And we found a nest of a Savannah Sparrow.

Paintbrush and Sticky Onions dotted the meadows.

And the mixed patch of Columbines and Lupins made a lovely show.

It was very hot and it is in these conditions that the Longleafed Sundew blooms.

This is an insect eating plant:
Hairs on the leaves hold drops of sticky digestive fluid.
Here is a picture, taken earlier by Tim, of a dragonfly stuck on the plant.

In the same waterlogged bog were these strange-looking fungi.

It is not a long hike but there was a lot to see and the heat made us all very sleepy.
