CHRIS' PHOTO JOURNAL

Mammaries
31 July 2009

The meadows are now a riot of Mountain Arnica and Purple Mountain Daisies.

Sitka Valarian and Paintbrush are in this picture as well.

We also found lots of Mountain Hawkweed.

And some early Fringed Grass of Parnassus.

Even Badger enjoyed the flowers.

And of course the inevitable Alpine Harebell

I have tried for years to photograph the two species of Paintbrush together, and at last I was successful.

Small Flowered Painbrush is on the left and the Common Red Painbrush is on the right.

By the last cairn a clump of Fireweed was blooming.

Nearby we found a thick stand of Spear-leaved Groundsel growing round a patch of brilliant green moss.

In the moss were perfect Ptarmagin tracks

We found a few late lupins still thriving.

Among them was a white one.

There was a lot of smoke about from several Chilcotin Fires.

And later in the hot, hot afternoon, thunder started to grumble.
