CHRIS' PHOTO JOURNAL

The Mammaries
July - August, 2010

Due to the endless hot weather, the flowers were very disappointing during the latter part of the summer
so I have condensed three trips into this photojournal.

On 14th July I went up there to try and catch the Eight-petalled Avens in bloom.

There were the usual Potentillas

Flightseeing to Nuk Tessli

And some incredibly blue Alpine Forgetmenots

A clump of pink heather posed nicely on the ridge.

The Silky Phacelia is always a surprise.

And the Red Heathers were lovely.

The next trip was on the 2nd August

Where the snow had lain late, the heathers were still magnificent.

North Pass Lake

We found a few late lupins

Unknown Mountains

(The mountains are murky with smoke from the fires)

Most of them are nameless

But the painbrushes were not at all prolific

Stormy weather moving in

However, the smokey light brought out their colour.

Alpine Harebells

There were almost no Arnica or Purple Daisies.

By the 7th August, a day of rain had cleared the smoke somewhat.

Here is Doug with Harry on top of the Mammaries.
